Using my computer for multiple rooms in my new build house?

Hi All,

I was just wondering the best way to do this...
I want to be able to use my computer on my desk in the office where it will live but also in the living room and the bedroom.

As the house is being built I can request to put cables in the walls so I was just wondering what you all can come up with for the cleanest, slickest, most reliable way to do this.

  • I'm already getting CAT6a in most rooms connected with a switch somewhere.
  • Want to future proof this solution to 8k@60Hz but I could be persuaded to come down to 4k@60Hz.
  • Absolutely no cable running. Only in the walls.
  • Not a fan of running DP or HDMI in the walls.
  • Has to be very reliable.
  • Want to be able to use my computer and not only be able to access games.
  • Need to be able to use a mouse and keyboard in these other rooms.
The perfect scenario would be that I'm able to use the CAT6a in the house for this somehow or maybe a wireless solution?

Watch some of the LinusTechTips house rebuild stuff. I think DP over Fibre is preferred with a separate run for USB; as solely Lightening/USB-C is a bit glitchy.

Hmm I really won't want to run DP and USB in the wall... I'm thinking of the next home owner as well.
I would think HDMI would be a better selling point for the house over DP?

Found the video I was thinking of. Its his new house that has a different setup:

Your requirements are very high, presumably as you're talking about gaming then the latency is also critical. I think it would be cheaper to buy a gaming PC for each location where you wanted to use one at if you couldn't commit to just using it from one place.
