Generally I'd be pretty pleased about people wanting to use my photo's and would generally let them use them if they credited me with them.

IF they ask.

However - compare the bottom two images on this ROYAL AIR FORCE web page

Look pretty similar?

What do you reckon I should screw them for? ;)

Heh, I know how you feel.

OcUK used my photo of Gibbo's Mustang to show off some TFT's!

Not that I'm complaining, I just wish someone had asked me.

Ask them that in return for lack of creditation you demand they take you up in a plane as payment :D

Dunno depends where they nicked them from.. they key in the first image is the mans head.. they could never argue that it was a different photographer at roughly the same time.

To be honest i wouldn't be bothered with the RAF ripping off my images as they have ample RAF photographers to choose from/plus they hire in privately to cover events.. so i'd be chuffed that they used my images.. but i'd ask them to stick my name next to them!

Well...

With the one with the crew who got it to that state - that photo does not exist in real terms - I had to digitally remove a couple of people's heads from the bottom right corner. ;)

And they are identical apart from the file sizes...

Any idea how much they pay their photographers though? Would be nice to get a sizable donation to the Vulcan. ;)

Good Luck... The Raf have large pockets - yes... but they also have short arms !!!! ;)
But you are right you should have been asked first. Im supprised they used your pics anyway, they normally have enough of there own photographers there, unless he went for a sly fag and missed the shot - so used yours !!! :D

Hell no.

I'd get a Eurofarter...

I'd much rather have something from the 60's - or Russian. ;)

Simon/~Flibster

Or that ;)

Well tbh, id just ask for them to add your name / atleast pay a little. I mean id feel honoured for them to use my pictures (as im sure you are) But agreed, id sort it out as they cannot just steal your pictures.

I think I would contact the MOD/RAF press office and ask where they aquired them and state it would have been nice to be asked for Permission

they are usually a bit more forthcoming with suggetions ;)

For further information, please contact Sqn Ldr Elaine Macleod at the Defence Press Office on 020 7218 3254 or Tony Matthews on 020 7218 2480.

I would suggest getting in touch with them too. Get a fair price fixed in your head too beforehand. Hey, I'm in the RAF, but they'd still have to cough up if they wanted to use one of my own images......

I think a simple call explaining that you're the copyright holder and you can show they're your images (the before/after removal of heads is a pretty good bit of evidence) and asking for both full credit (along with an indication of copyright) and a small payment would be in order.

I've seen this several times now, so anything I send out now (either on the forums or to potential/current customers) gets re-scaled to about 800x600 and stamped with a copyright logo as a matter of course, with a note adding that full res, non-stamped images are available for purchase or exclusive license. Everyone I've dealt with loke this has been more than understanding and it's never caused me any hassle or generated any complaints about detracting from assessing the image.

Things go on...

However - in a positively odd way.

Get passed from RAF to MOD...and then onto Crown Copyright themselves.

VERY helpful chap there. Has looked into it.
It appears that the images came with a press release... Oh....

Phone TVOC this evening. They're going to have a word with the PR people and let me know tomorrow.

This is getting very weird for me. I'm no professional photographer - I'm an IT support geek with a hobby. If they had asked me if they could use them the answer would have been 'Go ahead - just credit them to me'

Is nice to get the credit for your work. I've just started doing stock photos and had a few sales now, its not just about the money you can make, its the thought that somewhere someone has used your picture. Would be nice to see how they have been used so far i've had no responses

The question i have is, how did they get the pictures in the first place if you keep them on your webspace

They have been posted on a couple of forums...

Including this one and TVOC *The Vulcan Operating Company*

It lookis like the PR company decided that they liked them and just saved them...

Nice... A PR company that does that doesn't sound that reliable really.
