hey all, been thinking about boosting my wireless around the house and read that you can use a second router as a range extender.

now i have the d-lin dir615 from VM as my main router on my av rack and was thinking about putting the virgin netgear wrg614v9 in the middle of the house to maximise coverage.

apparently the netgear router has a repeater function and is really easy to set up.... however.... being from VM that feature isn't in the list :(

so guess i need to flash it to the standard firmware? harder than i thought it would be :( tried just grabbing the file from netgear and using the on router upgrade option but that just errors... apparently the flash space on the VM version is too small or something to take the standard config? i could be wrong as i was skim reading :p

so has anyone successfully managed to flash their VM netgear router back to a standard firmware... or could recommend a firmware that does work and that will enable the repeating functionality.

i've tried using telnet to change the firmware... don't know if i'm doing something wrong but it it just doesn't seem to want to connect.

tried the telnetenable.exe 192.168.1.1 *MAC ADDRESS* user pass (with virgin/password and the gearguy/geardog options)
and then using telnet 192.169.1.1 in cmd and "o 192.168.1.1" in the telnet client in windows but it just sits there and does nothing both ways :\

please help meeeee :D

just tried again and still just hanging when i try to connect over telnet :( what am i doing wrongggggggggg
