using o2 (Thomson ST 780WL) router on other ISPs

Hi all.

I have a brand new router from o2 sat in the box, i would like to use it with ADSL24. I've not booted it up yet but after searching around i am expecting it to be locked down, and got a silly o2 firmware on there.

I've been looking around and found that it's hard to upgrade the firmware on them as o2 have changed the default superuser passowrd.

Is this still the case, or are they commonly avaible now? Cany anyone point me in the right direction?
