Afternoon all

I am looking to build a new gaming PC on an AM 5 platform my old pc died so hence the need for a new build the MoBo I am going with is the MSI x870 Tomahawk and I would like to use my old GPU Radion R9-256x2 (until the 4080 or 4090 prices reduce) my question is will the GPU work on this MoBo?

Thanks in advance.

You may need to update the graphics card to the latest UEFI VBIOS for it to work on that motherboard.

Have a read of this :- https://community.amd.com/t5/pc-drivers-software/r9-295x2-bios-update-to-enable-uefi/td-p/488874

and VBIOS can be found here (Sapphire, Shappire 295x2, AMD Radeon R9 200 Series, Latest UEFI GOP BIOS Master):- https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/168806/168806

Or if one here for a none sapphire card if it states UEFI :- https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/?model=R9+295X2 Just check they are UEFI VBIOS the Sapphire BIOS should work on all cards as they are all reference cards and same card with different packaging and VBIOS for the manufacturer, Sapphire have created a UEFI BIOS for this card and not sure others even released one.

So you may need to flash the new VBIOS to even get the card recognised by the new motherboard, so will have to be done on another pc that recognises it and then flash the UEFI BIOS to it and then set the motherboard BIOS to UEFI mode on the board you flashed it in so it posts/boots up.
