I currently have an X58 based system with an i7 950, if i were to upgrade to an i7 4770k on Z87/97 would i have to purchase new ram or can i re use some of my existing sticks of DDR3?

I have a few different sticks around the house i could possibly use if possible!
In my rig currently is 6x4GB Corsair Vengeance 9-9-9-24 1.5v, i also have 6x2GB Geil Black dragon 8-8-8-28 1.6v and also 2x2GB OCZ gold 8-8-8-24 1.65v.

Is any of this compatible with current gen motherboards or shall i just sell it and buy a new kit?

Thanks Muchly!

Hi ,

All of the above memory should work fine in a haswell based system. X58 platform uses triple channel memory. The z87/z97 used dual channel memory. Your memory will default down into dual channel mode once installed in said chipset.

Personally I'd use the the vengeance 2x4gb and you should be fine. Only thing is haswell loves fast ram. Optimisation seems to be 2133mhz and over using haswell.
