Is it worth using some old routers I have lying around to take the load off my main router?

I have an AC68U which is used by around 7-8 persons with maybe 30 devices. I though about using an old tplink 841n I have lying around as an AP. It will give me some more range upstairs. The only negative is the lan ports are only 100MBts.

Good or bad idea?

Not much point unless you want better wireless coverage

I think that's the idea, OP wrote 'I though about using an old tplink 841n I have lying around as an AP. It will give me some more range upstairs.'

If you can cable it in OP it might improve your WiFi performance by balancing the load between the devices, but probably only noticeably if you're often hammering the Asus for throughput. Only one way to find out really. One of those things though where if it's not a problem it might not be worth fixing. ;)
