Is it a good or bad idea to use these registry fixing / cleaning programs? How many of you use them?

I'm on Vista 64, and recently I've started to get quite a few blue screens and games / programs crashing a lot.

I really don't want to re-install Vista cause I've got so much stuff on it etc..

I've done all the usual stuff, disk cleanup / scan disk / defrag etc. But I still get the blue screens and programs crashing just as much.

I was thinking about using a program called RegCure. But would like some input before I install it :)

Ccleaner is a popular one, I've used it for yonks with no problems.

I'd have thought BSOD would have something more to do with driver/hardware problem rather than registry?
Have you googled the error code?

I can't see how a third party app would be better at organising a systems registry than the company that produced it. Never had anything but grief off these things when other people have run them to try to sort out the mess that they have created themselves.

Yeap, also sometimes it's better just to save your important bits and go for an OS clean install, i.e. start again.

I always run a few diagnostics first, i.e check for bad ram, but other than that I don't really run anything else and plunge for a new install. Saves time (especially when you have an image of the install).
