Using router other than the isp one?

Has anyone used another router with Orange broadband than the brightbox one they provide when you join up?

I know sky didn't let us use any other routers than their box?

Sure, I've had Orange for about 5 years --- speeds aren't that great, but that's more down to the local exchange; however they really are unlimited for downloading ( even at >2mb I've downloaded 8GB of Linux distros in a day ) --- and rather than use an ISP router, I used a Zoom X6 for 4 years, and now a Billion 7800N, which is good and improved things quite a bit.
