Friend of mine's BT Voyager router has died so i offered her my older sky router. I presumed it would be easy enough to setup but nope!

Flashed the router as well - got into http://192.168.0.1 was able to modify stuff so the router seems to be working (connection success) and LAN connection etc. (i loaded 1.03 firmware onto it)

BUT no internet. No idea why. The line works. Shes on BT broadband and apparently no username password is required?

Anyone else with BT confirm that no username/password is required? and maybe also use a different router than the one supplied.

Any ideas? A woman's involved so extra special ocuk skills would be cool thanks :)

I would have thought a username and password would be required. Does your friend have the inital setup letter? Usually that will have the details required on it.

You might not need a specific username/password but there needs to be something in there.

On one of my connections I also don't have a login, so I phoned BT and they told me to use some ambiguous information:

Username: [email protected]
Password: 0

My other BT line uses login information though, along the lines of

Username: ********@*****.btclick.com

No idea why they are different.

She doesnt have the letters but she copied down email login information - could be same login details for her bb i guess. I'll get her to phone BT today to confirm her bb login. Hopefully its only that which is preventing the internet access.

cheers :)

Its a pretty common problem so if it is just a username and password issue they should get it done quite quickly. But you say the router actually connects to the internet? As in a solid green light and in the setup page it has an IP assigned?

At work the user/pass for the their BT internet is the same as one posted above:

********@**.btclick.com (might be .net, cant remember), and it does have a password, altho i can't see what it is obviously :p.

Probably best to just ring BT and ask, atleast then you'll find out quickly if it's a router problem or login details problem :).

It should show the line speed without the user/pass but no IP usually.

get lan traffic when router is communicating with laptop. Also get a "internet gateway" connected in the network connections tab.

So i tried setting up a new connection with her username and password in it (and stuff like IP and DNS set to automatic) but it didnt work and i got a error 658 msg (i think)

In the actual router admin pages router looks good. Shows speed(upload n download). So it does look as if i should be able to get onto internet. Im sure when i tested connection i got success and it shows ip address and submask.

Shes phoning BT later to double check username/password.

You will now need the proper username (doesn't check password) for BT Broadband so [email protected] - I think its come back into force again with the new traffic management system - for awhile you could get away without a username or password.
