Is it ok to use tap water through my reserator just to check theyre arent any leak issues with the reserator itself. No water blocks themselves will be used, just the pump and resivour.

I know extended use isn't good with tap water, but what if i just use it a few times, then put the distilled water and wetter in, surely that will be ok?

The problem is the outlet connection on my res was broken and i only noticed after i put all the rest of the kit in the PC, so i've glued it back on (pretty well i think) and it seems sealed but i dont want to have to waste distilled water (well i dont even have any to hand) to check it.

So i wont damage or leave any residue in the pump will I?

I dlushed mine with white spirit and blew it all out (Got a fuzzy head from fumes :D) worked a treat. SO much stuff flew out. Don't do this thought until somebody tells you white spirit doesn't corrode plastic, it might.

I dont wanna clean it, its brand spanking new, i just want to leak test it, because although its brand new, its broken and i just couldnt be bothered paying for it to be sent back or waiting, so ive just fixed it myself.

My first foray into water cooling and this happens :p

(Ok ok so its not *real* water cooling, but its as close as i'll probably get)

You can distill water with an ordinary household pot and two pot lids.

Boil water in a pot covered with the first lid.

After a while, you'll see that the water in the pot vaporizes, and condenses on the lid (this is distilled water).

Now replace the lid with the second lid, and turn the first one vertically, so that all condensed water collects at one point, and then pour it into a cup.

Meanwhile, more distilled water condenses on the second pot lid, so just repeat the above steps again... until you have a full cup.

My chemistry lessons have actually came in handy for the first time in a year!

Yeah, it's cheap enough! £3 odd for a 5L bottle at any Car parts shop (battery water).

damn you beat me to it...

this is the cheapest bit of any pc! just buy it! even asda sell deionised water and its like £1k a litre and if you have a big loop you might just need over 1ltr...

I couldn't get any at that exact minute, i'm going to be using distilled water when i use the loop and reserator, i just wanted to test a leak on the reserator alone itself.

Suspicions confirmed, i gotta rip everything out and send it back, its bust :( Wish i'd checked it BEFORE i put the water blocks and cut the tubing to perfect sizes etc....

surely if you cut the tubing perfectly it'll still be perfect once you the replacement for the reserator?

Dont i havent to send everything back though? I thought most eshops want EVERYTHING back in pretty much prefect condition. I'd much rather just send the reserator itself because that would mean leaving the blocks on, and not needing to dismantle the shuttle *again*!
