Using TomTom Abroad

Not sure where to post this so feel free to move it.

Heading of to France for a weekend in February and am planning on using TomTom I have installed on my phone.

Does anyone have any experience of TomTom abroad. Is it reliable as using it in the UK or is it going to send me on a wild goose chase?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I have the EU maps so that isn't a problem. Is there anyway of telling how up to date my maps are?

I have map version 675.1409 if that gives anyone an idea.

The full set will navigate down to postcode/street level. The basic ones only include major roads so will typically navigate you to a city centre if you catch my meaning?
