using VIN to check if stolen

Can u use the VIN to check is a vehicle is stolen,

its a motocross bike im goin to look at as there will be no v5 or reg plate so just wondered if theres anyway of checking using the VIN

I don't think there's a database for them. And I don't think the cops will give that info out. Just check the VIN hasn't been tampered with (they've tried to grind it out, fill it in with lead, or covered it in muck to hide it). The first you'll know about if it is stolen (aside from VIN tampering) is if the cops pull you and run the VIN and it comes back as stolen.

Pretty much what has been said. I doubt the police will be able to help you much (and even if the VIN came back as clean, it could just mean it's not reported stolen yet)

You can do HPI checks from the VIN IIRC.

Just google the VIN.
There's a chance if someone had it stolen they put it on some motorcross forum or other asking folks to keep an eye out for it.
