Ok I wanna learn and secure my network at home. I've 2 routersss,, and a switch, then my main PC (serves media). Router #1 is VIRGINS #2 is my Asus and then a Switch 8 port. R2 and Switch are mid house but R1 is downstairs so I'd like to use R1s spare ports (so back in router mode over modem)
So Router #1 is VIRGIN homehub with #1 device ONLY.
I have remote access web page and wifi hidden for emencys I can edit it. I use DMZ on the other router.
It's hitting a home plug, moving with the amps in the wall, out the wall then upto the device and that is another router (BTW no crossover cable - I PLAN on pure cable - no h/plug). Ideally router #1 is only going to hand out 1 IP address to the router or no DCHP. Or what about R1 handed IP'sand have one spare for fixing. Anyway Router '2 is AsusDarknigh. This is being reconfigured. Then I have coming out of R2 a server and a swiych setup
Now *0.1 upto *0.9
HOMEHUB *0.1
Darknight 0.2
Cosmos 2 Comp which is mainly serving but after will be VMWARE machines.
Group 2 is Family comps and my stuff so phones and printers *. So 1.1-1.9
Then all security, CCTV/IPCAM or Home Auto will be on *4.1
So if there was a camera and laptop on the switch:
-FIBRELINE-----virgin HH (PORT 1)---HOMEPLUG@WALL----ASUS DN (PORT 1)----SWITCH (PORT 2)---IPCAM
Can someone here:
-FIBRELINE-----virgin HH (PORT 2)----NETBOOK
Type the IP ofIPCAM and connect fine or does it split?
Right I have 4 VPN's - well I have the Merlins VPN server/client for my router. I also have a pay for VPN service, can I run the whole net through or just some things? What does the VPN do allows me to change myt IP to a USA one etc but are people on the same network??? I wanna be able to secure more home stuff and connect to my network from say Spain, heh
I wanna do IPCAMs on say 1.0 or 0.4 then each cam is 1.1 or 4.1
Can I do static IPs in network, should I count up devices and set IP to stop handing more out for proecting me net
iS THERE SOME software that will originse your network well I mean list all ips and devices and you click but depending on ports open you get context menu, so I get an icon for it then say CONNECT HTTP, FTP or WoL even RDP and VNC? Also I wanna get WOL sorted!
OH ONE thing! WIFI is on ASUS router NAME 2.4GHZ and there's a 5GHZ but like is that more for servers/NAS as it's less clutter. Now I have the kids on a GUEST NETWORK so I can turn it off and it'll stop there phones and comps
