Using White Spirit to clean AS!

Is it safe to do this?

Just installed my new heatsink, but want to properly clean it and reseat it, is it safe to use white spirit to clean the old AS off cos thats all ive got in the house?

Should be fine as long as it good white spirit, but i'd swing on down to a store to grab some TIM cleaner if possible.

Suppose I could wait until tomorrow... but i'm impatient. I see there is some citric cleaner, surely Jif Lemon would work along the same lines...

It'll be fine
Obviously stuff built for the purpose would be better but I think performance wise the difference would be negligible

Did it anyway, seems to be a bit cooler now, but ill give the AS a few days to settle in before i pass judgement

Good - makes me feel a bit better about using me girlies nail polish remover the last time I reseated a cooler :-)

Or you could always use IPA which can be 'acquired' from various places

IPA is better as it does not leave a residue like white spirit, meths or nail varnish. I am lucky as I can get it from work.

I used bacardi rum :eek:

cos it was late at night and couldnt be arsed waiting til the next day.

Girlfriend doesnt use nail varnish either.

FGS.. you can use anything. can you think of any good reason why not?

ive used nail varnish remover, white spirit, everything else only my Barton over the last 3 years and it still runs day-to-day at silly speeds.

if youre really that bothered, why dont you just buy some TIM and stop worrying
