Hi,

I am thinking of switching to a widescreen for my PC and I'm looking into getting one of those LCD/TV hybrids. Are games effected by widescreens? Also, do you get as good a picture using a HD TV for your monitor as you would a normal TFT? Are there any other issues I should be aware of?

Second question:

I have a 8800 GTX card, what sort of input to the TV would I need? This was one of the models I am looking at:

Basically all new games support a widescreen aspect ratios (or let you set whatever you like) so there's no worrying there. In some games (for example CS Source) setting to widescreen gives you an increased viewing area which is really awesome however not all games do this (Battlefield 2 for example) and you have to stretch it into place unless you want black bars down the side of your screen.

There's loads of inputs on modern HDTV's and 22"+ Monitors, DVI or VGA (through an adapter) from your 8800 will work fine :)

Thanks for the response, very helpful :)

I have a further question, the 22 inch monitors seem to run at 1680 x 1050 resolution and the 24/26 inch monitors at 1920 x 1200 resolution. Can a modern computer handle games at maximum quality at the 1920 x 1200 resolution without a damaging drop in FPS?

Do you (or anyone else) have any personal recommendations about whether 22 inches is perfect or if its worth spending money on a bigger screen?

1920x1200 is a 30 percent increase in pixels from 1650x1050 so you can expect less performance yes. How much depends entirely on the graphics card you've got. I'd say the 8800gtx should serve you well for that resolution, but of course for things like Crysis where the settings are built with the future in mind you may sacrifice a couple of notches due to your resolution.
