I wish to reinstall Windows on my PC to have a fresh start and will be getting Windows 7 as soon as it is available but would like a chance to try Windows 7 on my main rig as my main work machine for a couple of months.

Is windows 7 stable enough to run it properly for a couple of months?

Also what build would you reccomend and could you find me a link to the 64bit version of the build you reccomended.

Thanks

Regards,
Neil

I love it :) been running for a few months no sweat at all, much more stable than Vista on identical hardware and overclock. Runs all my games perfectly, all the programs I need run perfectly.

I upgrade from build 7000 64bit to 7057 yesterday, installed from an 8Gb USB stick, meant the installation flew through.

I don't think we can link to the latest version as it was just a leak from a tester rather than a public release BETA like version 7000. And they removed that download as well I think.

yeh, I agree, just locating the download link for build 7057 64bit - then need to organise the mass of unorganised files on my desktop, run a full system backup, wipe my system drive reinstall windows, link my documents folders up and install all apps and voila!

Do you play games online at all? Punkbuster does not work with W7 and will kick you from games.

I'm going to install Vista again this week as I'm fed up of having 7 flying on my SSD's and Vista crawling on a normal HDD.

Punkbuster has problems on vista for me, even to the point of manual updating not working. Means no more COD4 :(

However in regards to Windows 7, yes. The Beta will be fine to run until August when it runs out (Build 7000).

WHAT? I haven't heard of this PB problem on W7. Might have to reconsider installing it now :(

Does anyone know if Project Reality mod for BF2 works ok on Windows 7? It doesn't us PB does it?

EDIT: Just found a possible fix:

I know BF2 patched up to the latest patch works fine, as does quake live.

If you have problems with it go to here: http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloader/download.php?file=1 & download that, run the update & then select the game from the drop down. Not had one single problem since using that client.

At the risk of igniting the whole beta thing again if that work is actually work then it's not good practise to use beta software for anything remotely important.

Just my 2p...
