Using yum from behind a proxy

I'm on a uni connection and we connect from behind a proxy. I've done this before, but I've forgotten the cmd that allows you to use yum from behind the proxy. I'm using FC5.

I think it was something like:

export http_proxy="proxy address"

This isn't working and when i try and install anything it eventually times out.

Any advice?

A quick search will reveal:

so the full line in yum.conf should read something like:

proxy=http://myproxyserver.company.com:8080
