UT3 and GOW wont load

Hi,

UT3 and Gears of War both wont get past the splash screen on my PC in sig. All 4 cores are in use but nothing happens, it just hangs at the splash screen till I end task. I have patched both games too. Aby ideas?

I tried without AV and Razer software just to see if they were conflicting but still no luck. The thing is ut3 used to work.

I had this problem with gears of war. Fully uninstalled, removing any remaining folders from your hard drive and then installing the game should do the trick. Or atleast it did for me

Or perhaps another OS ?

Have you installed Game For Windows Live as GOW will need that as it auto searches for the latest patch 1.02 which means you have to sign into live to get that otherwise uninstall it remove all reg entries & folders reboot reinstall and do not install GFWL but I could not get it to launch without that. Also make sure you have installed the direct x updates from both game dvd's or go to MS and get the latest runtime package (around 76MB).

I just got em all working (gRID too)

What I did was uninstall the host openal thingy and then reinstall the X-FI drivers and they all loaded

OpenAL is an open source audio api (i think).

It's a good idea to have it installed in Vista, as Vista doesn't do EAX, and OpenAL is the alternative

No Vista does use EAX if the game or app uses OpenAL API (eg GOW, Dirt, GRID, UT3, ect) So there are a few games that use EAX in Vista. The problem Vista has is the games that use the Direct3D API have no EAX in Vista but there are ways to get that to work to such as alchemy.

its the sound card/drivers.
it does open eventually, but you can speed it up by loading, closing in task manager, loading, closing in task manager etc.

Openal is installed, its the host openal (adi) that I uninstalled and when I reinstalled the sound drivers it put openal32.dll (the same 1) back on.
