UT3, any good?

I heard lots of people back a few years ago asking me if I played Ut2004, and how it was a great game. So I got it, and loved it. It was hyped over.

UT3 though, I don't hear many people talk about it whatsoever...is it actually any good?

from my brief experience it seemed to be dumbed down ut experience with pretty graphics. it slower, more spammy and theres some seriously questionable additions to maps (robots? wtf?)

They ruined a franchise. It looks nice enough but the gameplay is absolutely dreadful if you've played any of the other UT games. It's essentially a showcase for what was then the new Unreal 3 engine.

Terrible, UT 99 was the best imo, tho most would probably say 2004 version.

It's a good game and the graphics are great, but in my opinion it is nowhere near as good as ut2004 which is where most of the players are still. The problem with UT3 is, it still has a few problems such as drops in frame rates at certain maps and the openAL crashes which haven't been fixed yet.

For me UT2004 is still the best yet.

I prefer it over UT2004 on gameplay alone.
However it lacks the playercount and has an offputting UI.

People still play it, around 1500-2000 at last count.

not my friends, not my clan. I'll no longer stay up until 2am sniping bots from face, or working out attack strategies for lava giant/coret, the community I once knew is dead (barrysworld, wireplay).

I have liked all the UT games, and i like UT3.. the only things that annoy me is the vehicles and the lack of people playing it.

I actually quite like it, but not as much as UT2004 or UT99. It is better than 2003 though.

Worth getting if it's £20 or less, but I wouldn't pay more than that for it.

It's decent, the scene is picking up. It's definately not as popular as the others in the series for online play but the community is getting bigger - the 1st cup season has just passed and hoping its going to get more popular as the patches are fixing the major bugs

Oh I agree UT99 was great it was my first love for PC gaming as I grew up with Nintendo and SEGA.

UT2k4 was good, but we had no update for years. 2k3 was horrible. UT3 I.. just don't get it, it looks nice, but definatly not so many people playing.

imo UT99>UT3>UT2k4>UT2k3

other than the ui UT3 is a good game in my opinion and i still play it most nights. Id say pick it up and give it a play yourself as it can be had for pretty cheap now

UT3, I like it, but it just doesn't have that UT feel anymore, and the lack of players doesn't help either. The console-style menu bugs the hell out of me, I would've thought a re-design of the menu system for PC users would go a long way to improving the game for the real fans.

The lack of the customisation community is another big blow, one of the best things about UT has always been it's customisability. The loss of the Nalicity map site was a huge blow to me and a lot of other players.

I bough and paid for it way back in October 2005 because I was heavily into UT99 and 2K4 and I was practically wetting myself on its release dates, but it kept getting put back.

By the time it did eventually arrive, I was disappointed.

Now, to be fair, a few weeks ago, I forced myself to go through it, an I did enjoy it, it was great fun, but I only played it really because I needed a break from playing Dawn Of war games.

Now, thankfully, while playing it, my kids liked it a lot, and so, I have bought them a couple of copies so we can hammer it out on a LAN together, but in all honesty, its a seriously lacking game that is simply filled up with eye candy and no game-play... So, it will appeal to console gamers I recon.

UT99 is still the one for me... I have only one problem however and that is that UT99 does not seem to play well anymore, and so I have knocked up an old Athlon 800 with a Ti4200 just for UT and that seems to play it just right.

I really really really hope that they realise just what they did wrong and release a newer game sooner rather than later to rectify it... Like they did with 2003 and 2004 - they saw how much they ruined it.. I think that perhaps the simplicity of UT99 is so much lacking too... Hell we just want to blow things up, we dont need a stupid story that really doesnt work anymore, lets go back to the original plan and start over before it goes to far OTT.
