Behind you... Naked!
Thankfully the game plays spot on, however, during the loading sequences, when there is a guy talking absolute tripe about whatever the hell it is, he is tryign to say, he stutters or rather pauses a few times for a few seconds.

I know it does nothing and I know that the junk he is spouting is exactly that... Junk, its still annoying me.

It does this on every single one of my PCs so, I assume it does it on everyones so is there a way to stop it?

It does it on Intel & AMD, ATI+nVidia, 32+64Bit, XP+Vista

Oh, the only thing I do admit is that my game machiens are all running off Creative cards... I will try that now actually.

Does the same thing on my rig too -- Core 2 Duo @ 3GHz, 4GB RAM, ASUS P5K board, Geforce 8800 GT.

Using onboard sound on mine, so I don't think the Creative cards you're using will be the link.

Is this as you are loading maps I presume?
If so it will happen. There is nothing you can do about it as far as I know

Its the level streaming built into the engine. The bear minimum will load and once you are in game textures and meshes carry on loading, I imagine your harddrive could possibly be struggling to load it all as quickly as the rest of your system wants it.

Ok, so sound card not the issue then... Or at least not any creative issue at least.

Thanks for that

HD is more than capable I would have assumed.

In fact, my No.2 PC has its D: Drive on a pair of 200GB Drives Raided and that also does it.

Clearly, we have PCs that are more than capable.

Seems to me that the programmers are perhaps tryign to stream the audio as well as the Game data???

WhingingGit=ON
Is it not possible to simply load in the voice-over as an OGG/MP3 and then simply play it while the gam,e data is loading up??? - Even I can do that on a 20 year old PC FFS why cant the programmers of this game?

Happens to me as well, annoying as hell.

For the record I have 6x 80gb drives in raid 0 so it's defiantly not something to do with the hdd speed. :p

Any of you guys tried Gears of War on the PC ? The streaming thing in that during gameplay is a stutter fest, something about the UE3 streaming stuff and PCs doesnt mix well..........

yea same thing happens on my rig in UT3... tis well gay, i know hes talking balls but would be nice incase he actually saying soemthing important on that one stutter like where the hidden amazing weapon that automatuically wins everything and u can use online etc etc etc (bit over the top) "and so this weapon is situated beneith....(stutter)...any questions?" ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! lol i would lose it

Same for me, and my two friends who have the game. Apparently this is normal and has never ever worked properly on anybody's system. Don't worry about it.

When I sold my 8800GTX and got a ATI HD4850 most of the stuttering went now it is just microstutter but even that is rare.Am running the 4850 @ 1920x1200 with DX10 mode plus full AA so might be something to do with the ATI HD4 series having superior texture compression. Should also add that both Blacksite & Stranglehold have almost no lag on the ATI yet the 8800GTX was not able to give a smooth FPS as those are both UT3 engined games it could be related to the texture compression as Bioshock is 25-30% quicker on a 4850 vs 8800GTX.

Hmm, thats intresting. I remember i asked on the Epic forums about it, and the response i got was -

"Hi guys, I *think* that the issue you are referring to only shows up in certain architectures of video cards. I don't like to comment on things that I don't have 100% certainty on, but I do believe this is why some people see the stuttering and some don't.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but we are looking into it.

Thanks-"

The thread was then locked and nothing was mentioned again, seems to me like there burying the issue :( Guess thats 1 way of ******* off customers. Thanks for the reply though AWPC, il have to try it out 1 day if i ever upgrade my 8800GT, shame it takes a new card to sort it :(.

But Im running a pair of 8800Ultras and its stuttering on that???

WTF?

Sod it, I have not actually tried it on a 6600GT yet... Im going to have a laugh just to see what happens?

Incidentally, I wonder if it will actually try playing it? - it says 6200 on the box??? - I know, I got a Socket 754 board here thats got 6200 onboard!!! - right, Smegporn 2600 coming up!

--

Actually on a more serious note, how is it possible for such a silly issue that should never have happened in the first place, be such a problem for them to solve??? HOW???

Not a clue, and its really made me angry at Epic. I must have waited months since it was released for them to update it to fix it, and absolutely nothing
came, 2 updates and not a fix, not even anything on there forums from them acknowledging it (even with the countless posts about it). Im pretty sure they know why (there not thick) but it would probably look bad saying why. GoW on the PC would have (imo) been the best version, instead its the complete opposite. Doesnt look like there are any future updates coming, and god forbid they mention anything GoW PC related with GoW 2 media heating up.

Yeah, really angry.

We all know its useless junk info, but its still part of the game and so oyu know that you are not runnign it 100% right and that kind of chews into your brain a little.

Mate sell your 8800ultras why they are still worth something and get either 4850x2 or 4870 you will get better performance. 4850 is 20-30% faster than a single 8800GTX...........

Yeah now worries mate. Epic would not comment as they know the NV drivers or 8 series cards have stuttering with their UT3 engine games. I was amazed how I could go from an 8800GTX to a £130 ATI HD4850 @ 1920x1200 in Vista DX10 mode with AA + max settings + vsync and get little to no stutter yet even dropping the res on the 8800GTX it would always stutter no matter what. Shockingly poor performance but Epic have abandoned GOW PC even though it is the best version and the polish developer are not supporting it either but TBH with patch 1.2 it is very stable and very playable now on the new ATI cards.

For anyone thinking of editing the ini files make a backup 1st as some of them are protected and the game will not launch if you change certain parameters then even if you change the value back it still will not work without the original file. Something to do with the way it monitors them for GFWL.

So, in other words, you mean sell both my cards AND my Mobo?

Nah, these are still stupidly higher performance than I could ever use ( I only have a 19" screen capable of 1280x1024 so they are not exactly getting pushed as it is... buying better will be justa waste of time & money.

My plan is however, by xmas, to give my 2 boys one of these cards at the same time, my daughter is getting dual core at last ( Poor girl has been stuck on Socket 754 ClawHammer 3700 ( Stuck? - it was only 10 minutes ago, I dreamed of having one??? ) )
