UT3 vs Quake 4?

I have both, only UT3 installed. OMG, the servers are mostly empty, bored as well good thing boredem can't cause death. I know Q4 isn't much better as for pop, but god, epic pounded the Unreal series into the ground with UT3.
 
Have you patched it dude? I made the stupid mistake of thinking the servers are dead.. then I remembered I haddn't patched it yet, then I found quite a load more once that was sorted!

I did, latest patch is UT3patch3 right? I wish they would give it a PC UI, that is prob. what scared a lot away.
 
Deathmatch games really are dieing off now from what i can see, or at least rehasing the same formula with nothing but better graphics. Would be interesting if the tfc players had got their wish and tf2 was nothing but a graphical update with the same gameplay (clearly a well worth it near 10 year wait). Probably woulda been dead and all by now.
 
A fair point; I think the 'problem' with standard deathmatch games is that most players get heavily in to one or two specific games and play them for years, not moving on for something which is basically the same thing with better graphics and crucially less familiar maps/gameplay. Those type of fast-paced games really aren't about graphics anyway (a lot of players tweak things down for visibility/fps) and hence people see no reason to change unless the community moves on.

Regarding TF2, the fact is things have moved on from when it was originally envisaged. TFC was really just a stop gap before a proper sequel to QWTF came out, which might have been a success had it hit the ground running before Q3 mods started coming out. However it ended up taking so long that TFC actually became quite a popular mod in it's own right and people started to think of TF2 as being a sequel to it.
 
i quite like ut3 :) find it more fun than Q4 to be honest for MP but SP.... ut3 is pants for that and thats what i mainly did in q4 as it was pretty fun for a while

Why do all the ut3 dm servers say they have no player? I joined one that was "empty" yesterday & it had players on it. :confused:
