I've recently installed a wireless router, a Netgear WGT624. Whenever I use any p2p software (primarily uTorrent) the connection between my pc and the router is dropped after about 2 minutes of use. Has anyone experienced anything similar or know what might be causing the problem?

I can only say its the router. Are you connecting to router via wired or wireless connection?

I am using uTorrent here across both wireless and wired connection to a Cisco Aironet 1231G AP and connected to a Cisco 1801. No problems.
I'm using a wireless connection. I have had working using a wired connection and had no problems. So it's something related specifically to the wireless connection.

I imagine it's caused by the large number of connections that you're trying to establish. I'd suggest reducing the number of concurrent connections that utorrent uses.

I've tried reducing the maximum number of global connections to 50 (very low) and the problem still persists :(

I had a similer issue a while back that occured on both wired and wireless I can happierly say after buying a new router the problem stopped.
What router did you have and what router did replace it with?

Right, I've had it with this router. I've come to conclusion that it's a fundamental design flaw and I'm going to take it back to the shop.

Can anyone suggest suitable replacement? Ideally for less than £100 inc wireless nic.

Just let you all know that I've finally solved the problems with this router.

A combination of:-

A. Updating the firmware to the latest version (this didn't solve the problem on its own).

B. Moving the router to a more central position in the house.

C. Assigning a static IP and specific DNS servers (4.2.2.2 & 4.2.2.1) to the network card.

D. Decreasing the MTU Size to 1350 bytes.

E. Disable the SPI firewall on the router (I will try turning this back on when I'm sure the device is stable).

It now works a charm :D
