Guys,

I used one of my machines a while back (months) purely as a 24/7 torrent seeder and now when I go to use the internet on that machine, pages take ages to load – they really lag! They never time out, it just take ages to load a page :o

It took approximately 7 minutes the other day for Google to load on a 2 MB connection… uTorrent is currently set to start with Windows, but when I disable it, the internets fine? Even though there are no torrents in the software in use or idle, it still happens.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

SW.

Mine's been always doing that. Maybe its something because it has to find its connections and peers when loaded.

The solution - switch off utorrent when not in use!

I just thought it was a bit weird that its not always been like it?

Maybe I should try updating my version; currently on 1.6.1 - which I was told is the safest?

Cheers,

SW.

My desktop PC seems to develop similar issues after a while, if Utorrent has been open for days yet it's not actually up or downloading anything, the net has been known to slow down on the machine. I'm all ready to blame Virgin Media, then I'll try my laptop and it'll be fine ;) A reboot fixes it

Are you using peer guardian? Used to really mess up my connection until I moved back to Azereus (vuze) again - safepeer seems not to interfere (just never really know if it works!)

Even when idling you see it use bandwidth up which is still using your tcp/ip stack (and you can only have so many connections) so I can see it possible causing slowness eventually.

Easiest way is to close it! You could change the tcp/ip stack as well if you wanted to.

I had the same issue, I have Vista 64bit and NOD32, whenever I used utorrent my connection would just die. I found out it was NOD32, Uninstalled V3 and went back to 2.7 and its fine.

Reduce the amount of upload bandwidth used by the client. Go for about half you total upload speed. I would be tempted to not run it at all when browsing or on-line gaming.

You could reduce the number of simulations connections in the options in U torrent to around 200 give that a go see what that does.

I think we may have found the problem:

That's not me, my friend who I seed the torrents for has a tendency to mess about with things :D

What setting should I be using here?

From an old thread:

Bit of a thread revival but i've had some nice results with upping max connections and lowering peers per torrent:

Current Settings:

Upload:30
Global Max: 400
Peers per Torrent: 50
Upload per Torrent: 5

Currently downloading 10 torrents and am touching 650k at this moment in time.

I have Max ADSL connected at around 6mb. Using a Cisco 857w and get no lag whatsover no matter how many torrents i have running.
