uTorrent says my port isnt open?!?!

I just happened to run the port checker within uTorrent and it came back with the result that the appropriate port wasnt open!?!?

I've not had any problems downloading with it (although it never goes as quickly as you'd like!) and I've opened up my router software and I've definitely got the port listed in the "Applications and gaming" section!?!?

Anyone any ideas on why its still telling me its not opened??

i always thought my ports were open until i went to portforward.com and checked, found out i didn't quite do it right, worth a look if you haven't already.

That router supports plug n play, you shouldn't need open ports unless your running vista.

I am running Vista and I've been to portforward and followed the instructions to the letter!?!?

did you go to application & gaming > Port Range Forwarding > and enter the port numbers and put in your IP and select enable?

Yep, put in the port that utorrent says its using, selected "Both" for the protocol, put in my routers ip address and clicked enable!

Have you got the vista firewall turned on? and if so have you allowed utorrent access to the port from in there?

You need to enter the IP address of your PC NOT the router !

Another thing to check if you have a Netgear router is the "attached devices" page.

My DG834G has the habit of shuffling the order of attached machines so that the IP address of the machine allowed to use utorrent is changed thus nulling the forwarding rules....
