Ok, so I have my tasty Samsung 27" tv, I have my PS2. Now, I've read loads of conflicting reports as to the best connections to use. TV is HD of course, and has both RGB scart and component inputs. Is it worth me forking out for the component cables, or will they make zero difference?

Point to note - I use the PS2 as a DVD player because the ex took the old one

Any light you may be able to shed would be most welcome!

PS2 does not output a HD signal, so no point using HD leads, in fact i would see no reason for them to even exist.

O Rly?

It was a last-minute surprise that GT4 not only contained 480p, but also 1080i. While the look of the 1080i is the best it's just marginally better than the 480p mode. These modes will both look amazing on an HDTV, but there are still the classic PS2 jaggies from the lack of anti-aliasing.

Yes its worth it. The picture will be better quality and a number of ps2 games support progressive scan or 720/1080i. Also it will output dvds in progressive scan as well, which make them look much better so go for it. :D

I got a PS2 component lead for my PS2 and was amazed by the difference in quality. I reccomend one of the following.

I hope I'm not breaking the rules by providing a competitor. But it's a direct link and I do not believe OcUK sell PS2 component leads so here goes nothing. http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=10314&mid=324967

Please note: If this is against the rules then could a don kindly remove it please?.

Thanks.

Whappers.

Just want to add that God Of War looks really fab in 480p. Component cables were a tenner from game.

I'd say for games that do not support progressive, you still get a much better picture than composite although only a minor improvement from RGB.

game and gamestation are not competitors

Thanks. I wasn't sure. I remember that there was a thread about the matter where people agreed that it would be better if there was a list of the competitors that you can mention. I didn't find out the outcome and haven't seen anything regarding it since so I wasn't sure. I just added the "Please Note" to cover myself. :p

The dons have removed these shops from peoples posts in the past though, im not sure why though because they dont sell computer components, other than maybe the odd gaming keyboard and mouse.

Thank you all very much for the speedy and helpful replies! You confirmed what my instincts told me, which is great - I like to be sure of these things before I spend, seeing as I'm on a bit of a tight budget (third year law student - I had to renew my contents insurance this month and I reckon I have approximately £400 of course books  )!

I shall have to put in a couple of hours of overtime at work I think ;)
