I really do not get it. perhaps I have been driving for too long?? :/

So here I am, driving on A31 Alton/Farnham DC, there are signs saying "Flood" on the SC section (Near Bentley) I slow, see lying water, drive through slowly.

******** behind me is right on bumper.

Later Same happens again but on DC section.

Signs warning of flood, I slow, see huge puddle taking all of L1 and most of L2, signal to move to L2.

I signal to move out to shallower water but ******** decides to block me and try to pass me!

At this point I get a little cross. (More to the point, I do not want somebody trying to pass me when I am trying to negotiate dangerous road and would prefer to keep ahead of them! (******* idiots! :mad: ))

So I just keep going

(Landcruiser, 6-12" water, 50MPH. No probs But the shower of spray must have gone 20ft high and everywhere! Just as he was passing! :cool: :D )

Lord knows what ****face experienced. Didn't see him catch up again for another quarter mile!

But really, what goes through peoples heads here??

Does it not actually occur is there are warning sign, and the person in front of you randomly slows down, that there mightn't actually be a good reason to slow down too??

Speed up, you'll aquaplane right over it, keep you foot firmly down on the gas as you go over it to. Everybody knows that.

You were clearly blocking other people, its like any FPS game, blocking is terrible.

Hand in your driving licence and take the bus from now on.

I get that all the time, always amuses me. I generally slow down on approach, press the button to raise the air suspension to the maximum height, then go through relatively slowly. Meanwhile, the Micras / Corsas etc behind plough through it in the other lane. They seem to have about a 50% success rate: you'd have thought they'd have learned by now but obviously not.
 
People are just dumb. They will think "the conditions out here are so bad, I must rush home as fast as I can to get out of this terrible, dangerous weather and then I'll be safe". It's broken, illogical thinking that so many people are prone to all the time.

Concluded this many years ago.

The worse the conditions are, the more insane people behave.

Must get home quicker so can be safe!

Driving to the in-laws on a single carriageway A road 50mph limit and theres standing water gathering on either side of the road leaving a strip in the middle about 20 metres long, warning signs are up. Cars are queuing either side and taking turns to drive along the strip, depending on who gives way.

The road runs along the ridge of a hilltop, it's about 2 inches of standing water and you can clearly see the kerb. It's not deep water, just drive very slowly in your normal lane and everyone keeps moving!
 
Traveling down an extremely flooded lane today in Worcestershire, a good 2' deep, truck causing tidal waves never mind bow waves, knobber in an f10 behind me seems to think following is a good idea.....

I get to the non flooded part of the road with my brakes hissing away after their bath, f10 stopped with hazards on, water over the badge on the front of his bonnet!

I nearly gave up on the idea but know how high the air intake is on my cab (just under the windscreen) how the BMW driver behind me didn't think similar is beyond me.

Dumb indeed.
 
It never used to bother me much but these days the number of people who drive right on my tail - to the point I can't see their numberplate - is starting to seriously annoy me there is no excuse for being that stupid.

Had a funny one in the last lot of storms - Motorbike right behind me barely a foot from my bumper - came to a flooded bit and being a big pickup I didn't half kick up the water - he nearly came off but apparently from the hand gestures it was my fault... utter idiot.

Had someone overtake me today when I slowed down to negotiate an area that is often badly flooded especially as it was dark although it wasn't too bad but annoyed me a little as likewise I'd slowed down so I could pull out around the worst of it if necessary and not the best bit of road for overtaking (though far from the worst).
 
Foggy or heavy rain like yesterday, it amazes me how many drive with no lights on or just the DRL on at the front and nothing at the back. Auto lights are not understood by stupid people.

Personally I don't care if they are up my chuff, they are the ones getting all the spray and not realising I am taking the line that causes the most spray for them as well.
 
Driving a heavy vehicle does sometimes have its advantages.

A while back I was driving on the A6 between Zouch & Kegworth. It had been hammering down all day.
Just after the lights the road opens up to dual carriageway and that's obviously where everyone overtakes heavy trucks but because of the sheer spray my vehicle was kicking up everyone else stayed well back.
all except Mr "I'm in a Van" who proceeded to overtake VERY slowly.
I could see a lake across both lanes ahead and indicated to move over, which he duly ignored.
Okaaaaay - fine, if that's the way you want to play it.....

I damned near washed him off the road

It was after Kegworth on the A50 when he finally caught up and overtook. As he did his passenger was craning his neck round looking at me.
Obviously I laughed and muttered... "You'll learn.... Eventually" !
 
They will keep tailgating until they go in to the back of someone. Then once they have had an airbag mash their face and hands up they will learn.
 
People are just plain stupid with the weather and conditions being an inconvenience. I’ve worked along the M4 and M1 corridors so have seen my fair share of condition-oblivious idiots, I think it’s just the way of the modern world where people are convinced they are busy and always in a dumb rush.
 
There have been 'Flood' signs on many of the roads I drive since about November. I've not encountered any of them actually flooded.

People start to ignore such warnings when they frequently encounter them unnecessarily.

Yup. Desensitization is a problem. It's also what annoys people when there are signs and cones up for weeks without anyone actually working.

This, mixed with people not having any common sense. Most were walking (or more continually sliding) around in the snow last week in footwear for indoor sport.

I'm not sure they will - all too many seem to put the blame on anyone but themselves and continue with their behaviour.
