Utterly, thoroughly confus d what to do.

1060 info is out in 6 days, custom 480's are on the way. I think you'd be mad to rush into getting another 390X before seeing if they're any good and pricing.

agreed, waited thus far, might as well wait another week or two. What's the rush?

I've already been without a GPU for a few weeks now. I'm stuck at home with lymes disease (meds mean I can't go in the sun). So I'm kind of "enough's enough". Sure I could wait....and wait....and wait... But I know I'm happy with the 390x perfmance. I already have all the drivers, software in place, and the price is fair. I doubt very much the 1060 or custom 480s will be much faster or much cheaper. So I'm thinking just go for it.

Show me a brand new 980Ti for £260 please. I'll happily buy it. 980Tis START at £360. And go up. Not even the same price bracket.

gibbo has confirmed sapphire aftermarket 480 are incoming asap with the nitro......

Id say next week; if you really can't wait 390X is still a very nice card :)

I defo hear you. You have a point. But I really can't wait anymore. I'm stuck in the house and can't play any games. I doubt that a custom 480 is suddenly going to be miles faster than the 390x. As before, this card only needs to last me till 1080Ti/Vega. When I will be upgrading to a 1440p+.

Plus I would never buy that 480 nitro anyway just based on the aesthetics. It's beyond ugly lol.

If hold on for a few days and see what the GTX 1060 brings, or a non ref RX 480

That being said, if you need a new card ASAP, the cheapest GTX 980Ti on OCUK now is £360 and is overkill for 1080p for now.

If go for any of these :-

RX 480 8GB £220
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/powe...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-187-pc.html

XFX Radeon R9 390 "DD Edition" 8GB £200
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/xfx-...ess-graphics-card-r9-390p-8dj6-gx-235-xf.html

GKFA2 GeForce GTX 970 4GB £220
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/kfa2...ess-graphics-card-97nph6dt6xvz-gx-001-gx.html

Any of those would be fine for 1080p, and in most situations 1440p. Keep in mind the AMD's have 8GB vram (may sway your thoughts)

EDIT : all of these gives some extra from the £270 for your screen / 1080Ti fund ;)

I wouldn't even consider a brand new card if it's only got to last 8 months, even less consideration to one which will take a massive hit in value as it's going EOL. 390X makes no sense.

Just buy a cheap used something or other, for 1080p pretty much anything will tide you over for 8 months - used 960/380 or something.

Might be nearer a year. Hardly anything in it price wise between used and new on the 390x though. I'm seeing 390s on fleabay that are coming it at more than OCUK 390x brand new! I'm happy not upgrading just now but I don't want to downgrade. People say 960 etc is fine for 1080p. but not for me. I only get 60fps in GTAV with my 390x as it is. (with grass at medium). 960 would be completely unacceptable to me. I really need stuff on ultra. bit of a visuals whore. Plus buying new I get a nice clean warranty etc.

Bear in mind this card will cost me nothing as OCUK refunded me my old card. So I will be in the exact same position as I was before my card broke.

EDIT: Pulled the trigger on the Sapphire 390x. Looks the part, will suit my rig. direct replacement for my STRIX that broke. I checked used prices on 980s and 390s and they were honestly the same price as the Sapphire was new. Kudos to OCUK for having excellent pricing there. And glad the money went back to them because they refunded me.
