UV cathode

Guys I've just gotta get a UV cathode, I mean with my DFI mobo and those cables uv reactive cables....

BUT

I used to have a cheap IV cathode and everytime I stared at it my eyes would hurt! So was it because the brand was cheap or does UV have this effect?
