I bought a second hand car on saturday, previous seller gave me the V5 to send off. However since then i've been offered a better car and would like to sell on the car I originally bought.

However, i've already filled in the V5 information for new keeper (section 6) and signed it (section 8)...can I alter this, tip-ex it out for example, or do I have to send it off as it is and wait for the new V5/logbook before selling on this car?

Anyone help with this? Would like to find out before I go ahead and send the V5 and then have to wait 3/4 weeks for a new one...cheers :)

Doesn't the seller of the car also fill in his part with the name of the person he sold it to, i.e. you? If you sell the car on with just the bit you have with another persons name on it, the two halves won't match at the DVLA? Anyway, you'd be better off ringing the DLVA than asking on here.

Ringing the DVLA can be a hard task, if you're near local licensing centre pop in there or try asking at a main post office.

However as has been said both buyer and seller return forms to DVLA after a sale and they need to match.

Andi.

I once bought a car off somebody and there was tip-ex over where somebody else had filled it in. I wrote over the top of it, sent it off and got a new V5 in the post two weeks later.

Although saying that, tip-exing over the original sellers signature probably wouldn't be a good idea :p I'd just phone the DVLA and see what they say. Having phoned them two days ago about buying a car with no V5 they were helpful.

You can tipex it out or strike through it, I sold a horse box to someone and they filled out the V5 but as they pulled away the clutch went and being the kind person I am I gave them their money back, repaired the clutch and then sold the horse box to someone else. I called the DVLA and they said I could tipex out the previous person's details as long as I sent a cover note with the V5 explaining why and confirming the correct info.
