strange one but i've recently transferred my private plate to my new car and i still own both cars, however the V5C for the older car has come back with what looks like a different plate to what was originally assigned to the car
the plate used to be Y812 FAL for a silver toyota avensis however they have returned the V5C with Y182 FAL. obviously checking online the details are correct.
is this just a case of phoning them to tell them about the error or just accepting the fact that the car will now carry a different plate ?
the toyota is still used so its more a case of how to organise the insurance so that they are aware of the plate change

Technically there is no error - you dont own the original plate so there is no guarantee it would be returned to you.

Normally I'd have said the same thing, but given the similarity between the old plate and the one they've come back with I'd say there's almost certainly been a typo somewhere so it's worth contacting the DVLA to check which plate they intended to assign to the car as it may now be listed under both registrations on different systems so it's worth getting sorted to prevent potential future issues.

It probably is a typo but the OP says it now shows up on new systems as the new, typo'd reg. So provided somebody else didn't already have it, I guess its no big deal :p
