Hello

need abit of help

Just bought a car and i got only half the v5 document from the bloke i know i should have asked for the whole form but thats all he had its the bit that the new keeper fills in and both signs,

i came home and because they live 80miles away i had abit of time to think. how do i get this taxed do i just take my insurance documents and v5 and m.o.t to the post offfice and they will tax it before i send the V5 document away because it will take 4 to 5 weeks before i get the documents back to say its mine before i can tax it otherwise.

It wont let me do it online because its not in my name and the tax disc may go to them.

Could you please give me abit of advise here plaese

Thanks

the seller keeps the main part which you put your address on then both sign, he sends that to the DVLA. You get the small green part, the "new keepers supplement"

This is what you take to the post office if you need to tax the car in the interim.

You wont be able to tax the car online until the DVLA have changed the ownership details.

i dont have the little slip only the V5 Document part that i fill out i just spent £1500 i hope i havent been coned!

I just want to get it taxed and then i want to send out the document so it will come back in my name

Hello Mate,

Take the Filled out Form to the PO to get your tax, they will then send off and u will get the new V5 throught the post.

All Sorted :)

Michael

You are supposed to fill out the blue bit with your name and address, you both sign it, the seller keeps it and posts it straight to the DVLA and you keep the green bit incase you need to tax it straight away before you receive the new V5.

He's not supposed to let you take away the blue bit incase you rack up billions in speeding fines on a car still registered to him....

i dont have the small part ust the big part can i still get it taxed from that? am getting worried now think i just paid for a robbed car or something like that, Should i just see if i can get it taxed with the main v5 document and then send it off and see what happens? or do i have to send the v5 off and wait and see what happens and not get it taxed for 4 weeks or so

If it was "robbed" how would the seller have the V5 with his address on :/
"Just the big part" IS the V5, what have you actually got.

Your posts make no sense.

i took an old style V5 to the post office last year and had no problems and those must have been replace 3 years ago!

I doubt they will give you any issues in taxing it, i would probably goto a little village type post office as they always give less hastle.

right

I just paid £1500 for a car and got the car the key and the V5 Document ( the first page that the new keeper fills in only ) i have taken the car away and just read it fully after driving 80 miles away ( i know am stupid but its the first car i have had bought on my own before)

So what i have is the V5 document with someone elses address, and the car and the keys

What i want to know is can i tax it with the part of the V5 document that i have and insurance and M.O.T or do i have to send the V5 Document away and wait for it to come back with my details on before i can tax it?

This is what you should have (Front and back view)

You fill in your address in the big red circled box and both sign the small red circled box. The seller posts this bit off for you so that you get a new V5.

You keep the green bit on the right hand side and put your address in the blue box - so that you can tax it straight away.

What have you got/not got?

EDIT

No offence, but how do people mess this up? It even has instructions all over it on what you need to do.

i messed it up cus i was stupid! and messed up and totally cocked it up! i am gutted in what i have done!

i have the follow part

Best plan is probably to go to the local DVLA office. Explain everything and they'll sort you out.

Just a quick reminder; breathe in. I'll remind you to breathe out again in a few minutes.

Honestly, it's hardly rocket science. Why didn't you get help from someone who knows, it's usually a lot of money involved.

How is that messed up? You've filled out the correct parts, you just need to send off the form to the DVLA. If the car needs tax, pop in to your local PO and say you've bought the car, you have that side and you need to tax it, also ask to send it off there and then. :)
