Morning,

I bought my car back in mid December and the dealer said that they were going to send off the V5C for it to be reissued in my name - unfortunately I haven't received anything and we're some 2 months later. I know DVLA advise that they have up to 8 week delays but I was just wondering if anyone has bought/sold a vehicle in the last few months AND sent it off via post rather than online - and how long it took for the DVLA to update their records?

I also rather stupidly forgot to get the new keeper supplement from the dealer when I bought it so if they've lost it, I'm going to end up stumping up the £25 and filling in the V62.

It's annoying really as, knowing how rubbish the DVLA is with losing everything, I did ask if they could just do it online there and then. It's so much easier, quicker and more reliable than post - but they said they don't do them online and prefer to post them off as as batch every couple of weeks.

Sold mine in December and got the document through 3/4 days later.

I never knew the DVLA were rubbish with losing everything as you say?? Never once had an issue. YMMV I guess.

Did you fill in the new keeper stuff online or send it off via post? Filling things in online, I've never had an issue. Sending things off by post, especially during the last 12 months things have taken a long long time with the DVLA. That's if they turn up at all. Plenty of people have had issue with the DVLA and sending off paper applications - most of the time only noticing when they receive a speeding fine through for a car they sold 2 years previously!

Did you happen to take a photo of the V5 with the document ref no? If so, you can do the transfer online.

Nope, like a completely donkey, I didn't even see the V5C. I didn't even need the numbers to tax it as they sorted this out too

I was going through a dealer so had any task or activity put before me with a "sign here" sticky note so can't remember precisely.

I assume it is pretty fundamental though as it triggers your tax refund? Has that come through?

Ah right, nope no tax refund as I was the buyer rather than the seller!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I contacted the seller and they confirmed it was sent off to DVLA and had proof of postage but for some reason DVLA haven't processed it. They luckily still had the reference numbers for the V5C so have just done it online and hopefully in the next couple of weeks a V5 should come through. Got an email confirming this from the .gov website.

I had a look on the DVLA vehicle enquiry website and it said the last log book issued was a few weeks before I bought the car, so presumably that's when it was sold to the dealer.
