Hi guys,

Where should I start, my car got into a accident and the insurance/repair company has said it is a total write off. I have agreed an settlement with them for my car to be salvaged which was done by this week.

I bought the car used from about 5 years ago, have been trying to find the V5C. I then see the new green keeper slip which makes me think that I forgot to send it to DVLA for the logbook.

I know that I need the yellow section of the sell/transfer or part exchange to motor dealer to complete that to let them know. I got the V62 form to fill in but it says I need the VIN chassis 17 digit number. But as it is Sunday they are closed, and I hope they have not completely took the car apart yet. Looking to ring them tomorrow and see if I can get that VID for it.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get the V5C logbook? I only have myself to blame for this.

Much appreciated

https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ check here to see when the last v5 was issued if it was around when you bought it then you should just be able to apply for a duplicate which means you don't need the details afaik.

On the plus side if you've been getting any tickets over the last few years they've been going to someone else if you never had the v5 in your name :D

Thanks for that, I checked my reg and it shows that it was issued around the date I bought it. I still have the green new keeper slip so still think I don't have it. But the dealer must have registered me on the vehicle on my name right. So I try asking for duplicate one first?

Thanks for your response

I believe you should get sent the v5c if the dealer filled your details in irrespective if you send the green part in. So you probably misplaced it or it got lost in the post.

You don't send anything to the DVLa for the logbook, that's what the seller does.

You get the green bit to tide you over until it arrives. You don't send the green bit anywhere.

Thank you guys, it seems that I might need to get hold of the VIN so will ring the repair company first and see if they still have it hopefully. Edit: got the VIN online after looking up, so ask for the duplicate so it will arrive soon
