Looking at two cars a Volvo V70 2.5 20 valve and a Volvo 2.5 T5

According to the spec sheet there is not much between them, the T5 is 2 secs quicker to 60 and the same fuel consumption as the 2.5.

They both have leather, air con, cd player etc, so the only differnce is one is the T5 and both priced about the same

So which would you go for?

Help me on my indecision

Cheers

2 seconds difference to 60 is quite a big difference you know, it'll feel a lot quicker!

But is it worth it for that 2 secs and the driving style to look after the turbo

It might be 2 seconds to 60, but that'll become longer and longer in the more adverse situations you put it in. The difference in say, 40-80 in 4th will be much longer!

Basically you have 2 cars. Same price, same features and same fuel consumption, but one is 2 seconds quicker to 60 and may be regarded as the only "cool" volvo ever :p ;)

Go turbo.

I've got an S60 T5 and I love it, plenty of power and okish fuel comsumption if you lay off the accelerater. When i looked at the 2.5, the cars are about the same price the insurance was about the same, the 2.5 worked out about £70 a year cheaper to insure and they cost about the same to run but the T5 has 260BHP and the 2.5 has 190-210 arround there not sure exactly but for the money the extra BHP is worth it

Have to say that IMO those 260 BHP don't translate too much into speed on the road. I had a very long run against an s60 T5 yesterday. From 50 to 140 (gprs was about 135) and there wasn't much in it. Maybe 3-4 car lengths, and considering I drive a Rover 620Ti with a tad more boost (around 200bhp) I wasn't impressed at all. I always thought of the T5's as being some kind of mini road monster.

to be fair they only have 260 BHP and through the front wheels, so its never going to be a properly quick car. Especial when you consider the size of it. It is kind of an urban myth they are. THe only proper quick S60, or V70 for that matter, is the R and that has 4wd drive and a larger turbo and quite abit more BHP. And i would say 3-4 car lenghts is a respectable margin tbh.

If you need to ask this question, the additional running costs of a T5 over a 2.5 20v are not worth it for you.

Get the 2.5.

Get the T5 and get it remapped.

I've got an 850R and it's a monster. It's incredibly fast.

My friends call it a "time machine" because we get everywhere so quickly.
