this morning my car was fine but after driving it 2 mins putting my foot down ie: full boost my car is juddering just wont go but if i ease of the throttle a little it goes like stink. do u think its overboosting or could it be something else ?
My T4 did this when I tried tesco 99 ron fuel. Switched back to V power and it ran fine again. I dont think Volvos like fuel with to high an ethenol mix.
since i had it 2 days. what would u recomend ive been and got a boost guage today just need some rubber hose now to check to see if it is over boosting.
didnt seem to do it this morning when the engine had only been running about 5 mins.
That will be your probelm I bet. The T5 is mapped for 98ron fuel if youve put normal unleaded in and its been run on super by the last owner you are getting detination and the engine is having to cut the boost. Eventually it will retard the ignition to run the lower ron fuel at which time your mpg will decrease as will the power from the engine. Go and fill it back up with super unleaded, Vpower is my preference but you can use any really(although i personally wouldnt put tesco fuel in). There is no saving using normal unleaded in turbo Volvos just run it on super unleaded.
Unless your Volvo has been tuned it will be mapped for normal fuel. All Volvos are. If it is running incorrectly I suggest the problem lies elsewhere. First thing to check is the easiest. Check the whole of the Turbo Pipework from turbo to intercooler then all the way to throttle body. If you can take the pipes off one at a time and check they are completely intact.
However if your T5 is later than 2000 but earlier than 2003 it may be a problem with the electronic throttle module. If your car is earlier then it is a Phase 1 model and a lot easier to fix.
You need to check each system in turn. so check all your spark plugs to make sure they are ok. Then try swapping some coil packs round to see if it gets better. Then it is fuel injectors etc etc etc. It could be many many things and if your not mechanically competent you could struggle.
I think reading your post you've had it 2 days if so take it back
first time ive owned a t5 and yes i am mechanically minded allways fix my own cars i just want other ideas/things to check as like i say its the first t5 ive owned as for taking it back its not an option im very happy with the car and i know the fault will be something small but the problem is like some of u have said there are many things that can cause this problem. ill be replacing the turbo vacume pipes tomorrow and checking the main intercooler pipes aswell, i would say it needs new plugs after inspecting them so that will be on my list of things todo. The idle of the car is good but i have noticed that when i give it some welly and it chokes the idle takes awile to settle back to norm from 2000rpm but if i dont make the engine choke it allgoes back to normal withing about 30 seconds.
As others said really, i have a t4 and run it on super. Id agree it feels best on v power as well, but i put in whatever comes to hand most the time.
Just give it a good service and go from there, i cant imagine its vacuum lines probably coil packs or plugs.
i run my S70R on '95 ron and it runs fine @ 147k miles and counting
what year is the car cos iirc they changed over to a more complex throttle/maf combination in 2000/2001 sometimes refered to as the ME7 engine code
the guys over here might know a bit more http://www.vpcuk.org/
mines the simple 1 p1 1998 i tried to register on that site but the admin has turned of registrations anything u can do there ?
im starting to think more and more its the plugs as it seems to happen once they get hot and its not like a fuel cut its more like miss fire but only at full throttle or its running out of fuel.
i took the plugs out yesterday to check them the color was fine but i dont think they had been out in awhile. going to fetch some ngk plaugs later today.
its ment to be running 280bhp remapped does this sound right ? and will thay cause plugs to fail quicker ?
Use NGK Iridium IX or genuine Volvo plugs as thats another thing they can be very fussy about. I would run some super unleaded through it first before spending too much money, the car will run 95ron fine but will take some time to adjust to it(a couple of tanks full) if its been run on 98ron for a long time before, which it probably was if its been remapped. It is in the hand book that the recommended fuel is 97/8ron for "T" Volvos.
