Fancy trying a bit of Sous-vide...any reccomendations on a vac/heat seal machine?

Quick look on amazon and prices go from about £30 to over £100 - what are people using, what features/pitfals to look out for?

Thanks!

Bought a cheap one and it was hit and miss.

Bought this Sealer and although not still for sale, has been solid.
I would probably buy from These guys when of if I need to replace the current machine.

Quality bags are also important imo.

I have one of these, pricey for a home machine but really good

I got this ages ago for freezing steak, chops etc etc along with a bunch of these and it's done everything I wanted it to do.

Is there any advantage to that versus a traditional freezer bag?

Just curious as I use the freezer bags with the sliding lock on them and they seem to work well. Couple of quid just.

Freezer bags are ok as long as you get all the air out of them, if not then freezer burn is a thing + you can't really sous vide with a freezer bag.

Some interesting options, thanks peeps, I forgot about this thread!

Some are a bit pricey though...!

I think this one mentioned above is about as much as I'd want to spend...

Needs to be big enough to do, say an 18oz steak

Size doesn't really matter...

I've got an Andrew James one my ex bought me which is one of those you just clamp it down over the last inch of the end of the bag.

If you get a roll of bag material, just cut as much as you need off, seal one end, stick your meat in and then vacuum and seal the other end.

I'd like to use it for vac-packing food for the freezer too, so I guess i'd need to buy the proper plastic bags for it?

I’ve got an Andrew James one which I’ve had for years. I bought it to vacuum pack meat I bought from Tom Hixons. Portion it up and stick it in the freezer. The bags come in a roll, cut to length on the machine, seal one end, put food in and vacuum seal the other end

Got one of these for the 50g bags, sounds like it's gonna break everytime I use it but it never fails me tbh.
if your a go-hard ham-fisted kind of guy that wants the steel on steel expensive ching sound, don't get this.
Or as my Old Man used to say, buy the best you can afford.

As said, buy and use these bags.
I find it the sealer good for marinating meat as well (although care is needed).

+1 for these

Also I double seal for long term storage
