hi,

iv recently started playing old psx games that are rated highly. i recently finished ff7 and it is one of the best games iv played. iv decided to next try vagrant story as this is another highly rated rpg, however it seems to be quite slow and hasnt rele caught my attention yet. iv played about an hour and am in that dungeon bit in the beginning. does it get any better?

It does get a lot better but it depends on you having a solid understanding of the game, especially its weapon systems and their affinities. If you use the same weapon throughout the game, it's going to stay at low damage as its affinity against target types oscillate. (For example, have a weapon just for fighting the undead; it'll become stronger against undeads over time, but attacking the living will weaken it)
 
I tried a couple of times to get into Vagrant Story (quite a few years ago) but somehow it never grabbed me. Like the op, I just found it dull tbh.
 
Bought this like 2 days ago on PSN, Not far enough to comment on the story yet, But the presentation with the music and speech is all top notch so far, Still getting used to the battle system, Currently stuck on some rather large Minotaur bloke at the start though..

You're in for Hell if you find that hard :p you only have a basic melee attack to begin with! Go for the head depending on if you'll miss or not. If it's under 70% chance don't bother.
 
Well...Its only killed me twice, so we'll se how I get on, What do you reccomend though? Stay on the platform whacking his head? I jumped off and was circling him targetting one of his legs before he ended me.

It's never ever killed me and I was 12 when I first beat the game (I'm 23 now). I just leapt off the platform, and ran straight at him, going for the most damage I could do, within reasonable hit chance. That was normally the head or the body. I'll see if I can dig out the game and confirm what I'm saying or if I have a horrible memory.

Remember you have a hotkey menu (I think it's L1) where you can hold down a button which brings you to a contextual menu where you can quickly select potions and later on special abilities.
 

This guy only attacked his right arm once, then kept attacking head or his body, whichever was going to be more likely to land.
 
It will be your best friend for the rest of the game :) There's a large number of abilities you'll need to make full use of. The same menu can help you to select weapons and tools quickly too.
 
i think im getting the hang of the game. quick question i have a couple of exilers and i understand its best to use them when you have no weapons equiped. how do i unequip weapons?
