Vaio Docking Station Woes

Right...

I'm having a bit of bother with a Vaio docking station, it may just be me being really stupid!

When using the laptop in an undocked state, I close the lid and it goes on stand by. I would then expect to be able to dock the laptop and wake the laptop up using the mouse / keyboard on the docking station? Is that possible at all?

Secondly, I have an external monitor attached which isn't widescreen. When docking the laptop, the external monitor picks up the resolution 1280x800 and not 1280x1024. Should it automatically load the best resolution for that monitor?

Just to clarify, I'm using XP and the laptop model is a Vaio SR-VGN29.

I think I've used the same docking station that you'll be using.
We just gave up on it in the end, absolute nightmare and compared to a real docking solution, was just an absolute failure.

Can't be much help, but I wish you all the best! Will be interested to see if you get round all the monitor resolution/turning on/docking woes.
