Picked up a Vaio FW56e in the sales for a very good price, T6600, 500Gb HD, 4GB RAM, ATI Mobility 4570 512Mb, 16.4" full HD x-black LCD, very pleased so far. However, I'm having trouble getting the HDMI output to my 37" Panasonic PX70B TV (1024 x 768 16:9 resolution) to perfectly fill the screen, I either get a black bar all the way round or the screen extends slightly beyond the TV panel. This is controlled via the Vaio Control Center HDMI Resolution settings, can't see anything in the rather sparse Catalyst Control Panel (special Vaio 9.9's). The laptop picks a 1280x720 resolution for the TV, as 1024x768 is not 16:9 in PC-speak..

Can anyone help, or do I have to wait until Sony release their version of 9.10? The ATI Mobility 4570 drivers are only beta for 64 bit Windows 7 from ATI, and you are advised to get them from your laptop manufacturer. I'm reluctant to get non-Sony drivers as I quite like the way Sony's control panels work with updates and management etc... am I missing something?

Thanks in advance!

If no-one has experienced this, could anyone advise if this is a trait of the TV, or the graphics drivers? There is no option on the TV for overscan, which I assume is the issue. There is no option for overscan in the drivers either, which look different to my desktop's 4870 drivers...

Would a custom resolution help? Can you do this over HDMI?

I found the answer! Basically ATI's unfathomable UI - the answer is here. The daft little icon in the bottom left corner - niiiice!
