hey all,

I've just had a new sony vaio vgc-rm1n dumped on my desk this afternoon.:)

This machine is going to be used by our Studio team and due to software restrictions i have to remove vista business and install XP pro.

I have done the normal install process but when i was asked which hdd I'd like to install xp on i got "unknown device" listed 4 times.

I thought that it might have a scsi card inside, labling 4 channels for hhd's hence the 4 "unknown drives" but i've pulled it a part and it seems to have 2 sata drives.

I'm completely confused was to why this won't take xp.

has anyone had anything similer or know how i get round this??

cheers in advance.

ok, an update of what i've tried.

I've copied the drivers that i found in the c:\drivers folder to my own machine.

I've also managed to track down a floppy disk drive and I've put the sata driver on a disk and tried to install XP.

I press F6 to install 3rd party, I get the menu asking me what chipset i have, I have selected the correct one and it starts to install.

I then get...
File txtsetup.oem caused an unexpected error (4096) at line 1742 in d:\xpsp1\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.

does anyone know what this file does??

can anyone help me??!!??

right,

i have downloaded the drivers form the tin'ernet and put on a floppy. I've tried installing xp again but this time i've got..

file iastor.sys caused an unexpected error.
