Hey guys what did you all have?

Me and the wife (with my son, who is 9) went for a Carvery.

No posh resturant this year due to lack of baby sitter :)

She wasn't too hungry so we went to Chicago Rib Shack (I wanted to try Franco Manca or Jamies Kitchen) for a small bite as the missus wanted to have ribs but we left disappointed with the visit. The food lacked flavour and was lukewarm at best.

February is currently a huge detox/paleo month in our house..... so we shunned going out, champers/wine.... and I cooked.

Start: Yolkless boiled eggs with advacado filling topped with smoked salmon and small side-salad

Main: Roast Almond and chilli pesto covered chicken and butternut squash will grilled asparagus.

Desert: none...

All accompanied by iced mineral water.

Was really tempted to throw the detox out for the evening, however we were both glad it prevailed....

Stayed in, I cooked us each approx 150g Sirlion, 100g king prawns, salad with olives, cherry tomatoes, boiled egs etc. Was very nice and washed it all down with anice bottle of white wine.

That does look really bland an uninviting. Believe me, there are better BBQ places in Chicago!

I cooked, largely successfully.

Aperitifs: Two shots to be downed before the meal, just to brighten the palette. A reduction of lemon juice, with sugar added to make it syrupy and a little zest to intensify the flavour, rounded off with a little gin to give it a kick followed by a glass of cucumber juice. I'd intended to do more with this but didn't have the time, it was probably the least successful bit of the meal, the lemon thing worked but the cucumber less so. Still served it's purpose well.

Starter: chicken goujons, and breaded mushrooms served with creme fraiche and salsa dips - all homemade. I was seriously chuffed with these.

Main: Duck in orange sauce served with steamed vegetables and spicy potato wedges. I forgot to put the vinegar into the sauce so it came out a bit sweeter than intended but was still lush.

Pudding: I'd intended to make something the night before but ended up going over to see the girl 'cos she was having a bad day and wasn't feeling well. So, instead, she picked up some chocolate cheesecake on the way over and we ate it with blackberries.

All washed down with a bottle of Petit Chablis.

Om nom nom.

Starter: Langoustines in garlic/herb
Main: Garlic and Basil Spaghetti, homemade meatballs and home made Sauce
Desert: Small box of French Macaroons

Think I outdid myself on the pasta sauce tbh, been asked to make more to freeze lol.
Meatballs were decent think I couldve used a bit more rye bread in them tho.
The macaroons were shop bought and goddamn the citrus ones *droooools*

Bought some frozen crushed garlic as the shop was out of the jars, tastes so much better.
Bag of frozen garlic was like 79p or summit from asda must easy be 20-30 blocks, each block at a guess would be around 3 medium cloves.
Looking forwards to using it again
