Yep,
Passenger window smashed, dash mount broken, nothing taken. The police couldn't find me so they towed it away to Linlithgow from the Royal Mile ( 1 week ago the Queen walked right past where I left the car... )
This was also behind the courthouse with 2 cctv cameras directly across the street (not heard from the police yet on whether there is any footage) and a security guard in a building next door that was being renovated. The security guard heard the alarm and reported it to the police.
The tow company took £170 of my hard-earned in return for breaking my track rod end and returning the car. To be fair they replaced the track rod end when I returned the car to them complaining that they broke the steering. The owner of the company came out and was very apologetic about their negligence (their own words) Of course, at £150 for recovery and £20 for 1 night's storage they still made out like bandits on the deal.
Autoglass appear to have done a decent job of replacing the glass and hoovering, although there is now a new squeak from that door which could become very annoying. There went another £60 on glass excess. Does anyone think I have any cause to complain about the squeak, or am I just being picky?
With travel, costs, a day's holiday wasted, reduced value on the car (there is actual physical damage to the center armrest) I am out well over £300 for a theft that actually yielded nothing for the thief. As many of you will know, there is no point in me claiming on my regular insurance, it's just not worth it.
He (or she, wouldn't want to be sexist now) made off with nothing. Not a jot. Not even the broken GPS unit in the second glove box that he obviously didn't know existed.
