Valkyria Chronicles

lol yeh, what ones 14 again? the one where you capture the base in the middle then get attacked both sides with enemy reinforcements everyturn?

Hard

Aye that's the one, i tried to be tactical by covering both sides at once, however my medium tank got decimated in one turn, going to need to rethink this.

The cutscene before that, without spoiling anything, wow, just wow.

I just bought it for £15 so I will hopefully be playing this in the next few days.

ah yeh the cut scene is quality, best one so far
Im on the same mission at the mo, Im gona try moving some shocktroopers right up at the back where the tanks come in before i capture the flag

But that somehow seems too easy :p

[Minor tactical spoilers, no storyline spoilers]

Doesn't work mate, they give the enemy the first turn as soon as they enter so any troops not a decent distance away get slaughtered. I've decided my best bet is to have a small collection of defenders at the base camp holding off the northern force (who move much slower than the southern force) and focus all of my big hitters on the southern force.

Haven't tried that yet mind, hopefully the Edelweiss and Shamrock combined will be able to deal enough damage in a short enough space of time to allow for me to eliminate the southern force before the northern gets too close. I've also managed to obtain an incredibly powerful lance from a boss that i've equipped on Largo, problem is its accuracy is a joke so i need to get close to have a chance of hitting... maybe there's a trench nearby where i could hide him.

When I bought this it was because I hadn't played an RPG for aeons and the high ratings it was getting sparked my interest.
I'm not a fan of turn-based stuff at all, but I thought I'd take the plunge anyway. Then I heard about the RTS element and got really worried, as I absolutely abhor RTS games, in fact I even considered just selling it straight away to get my money back (I probably could've made a profit actually).
Decided to stick it in and see what was what the other night and I did quite enjoy it!
It's been ages since I had a decent game I can play quietly in bed, it's going to go back under Resistance 2 in the pile until I complete the SP campaign, but it's definitely getting kept for now.

Just completed this, my only complaint is that the final level relied very much on luck, failing 3 times after long grueling battles but then winning the 4th time in only 3 turns, it was still suitably epic however.

Really a brilliant game, certainly the best RPG i've played in years and one of the best games i've played in a very long time. It really was a pleasure to play something that i've never played anything remotely like previously. The storyline was also brilliantly done, it's the first time i've actually felt for the characters in years, i was beginning to think i had simply grown out of it, i'm glad i was wrong.

What a game.
