I might be about to come into a little cash, and have decided that I'm going to make the jump tom PCI-E and get a new rig now and then make the jump to Vista next year.

What I use it for

Browsing Web, My Work, Light Games - World of Warcraft etc mainly strategy games.

What I want

New CPU: Core Duo - I may/may not Overclock

New Motherboard: Good quality board must have onboard GB Ethernet, 5.1 Audio. Can be M-ATX or standard ATX don't mind. Will use onboard sound to start and when funds allow I'll be buying a creative XFi sound card with new speakers.

New Graphics Card: PCI-E Doesn't need to be top range ATi or nVidia don't mind. I don't think I need the power of SLi/Crossfire but having the option could be handy.

RAM: 2GB DDR2 - Must be good quality.

I'm got a new Enermax Liberty 400W PSU (still in box) to use with this new PC and I'll reuse my existing Hard Disks.

Budget
£600 could stretch to £650 depending on spec!

Edit: Sorry should have mentioned no need for case or optical drives :)

I stole this great spec from hp7909. :)

EDIT: If you can stretch drop the spinpoint for this: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-079-SE) at £52.55 (£61.75 Including VAT at 17.5%). It's nearly as fast as a Raptor whilst being a heck of a lot quieter and cooler.

EDIT2: To not overclock this CPU would be patent nonsense. You could effortlessly overclock it to the 3 GHz area with just a few minutes in the BIOS.

No he hasn't...That mobo is not a good clocker with a max 300FSB reported.

If spending this ammount look at getting a better mobo.

That mobo will only do 300FSB

so thats 7 x 300 that will give 2.7ghz.

A mobo that will do 500FSB that will allow you to overclock if you wish and a nice fast gfx card.

Not with that RAM it won't. With that G.Skill it won't even start up. Try the HZ if you can afford it, or the Corsair or I think the Giel, but definately not the NR.

Thanks for your input what do you think of this?

I'm not sure on the RAM....Should I stick with what Ive got 2GB @ 800Mhz or should I go for 1GB for now which can do 1066Mhz and when Vista comes around buy another 1GB with an OEM copy of Vista?

What do you reckon?

Get 2GB!

1GB just isnt enough any more IMO plus it's better to buy a dual-channel kit for when you want to sell on :).

WoW will love you even more with 2GB with those loading times :).

hmmm still not sure about the RAM but I'm leaning towards a 1GB kit @ 1066Mhz for now.

Which means I could spend a little more on the on the GFX card what would you recommend now?
