Howdy folks,

So I'm looking to switch from my desktop to a gaming laptop but I need a little help with the value of my current system:

Intel Core i7 950 @3.07GHz
8 GB DDR3 1600MHz
Geforce GTX 460 1GB DDR3
DVD RW ATAPI iHAS124 B ATA Device
Edimax 802.11n PCI card
1TB SATA drive + 150 GB SATA drive
ASUS P6X58D-E Motherboard
Zalman Z7 plus case
Air cooled

Bought a few years ago, heavily used (tested) but well maintained and still more than capable of running any game you want (currently playing a heavily modded install of skyrim on max settings at 30+ fps)

So any idea how much it's worth?.

Thanks
Nbolo

Sorry mate, but it is against forum rules to give Price Checks outside the Members Market, which sadly you don`t have access to.

That machine is pretty old by now and will not appeal to any PC gaming enthiusiast, yet will be overpowered for anyone just wanting a PC for general use.

Whenever I am selling old PC components, I find out the reasonable/realistic price of buying that same part new, and divide it by two. If I am sellng to a friend/acquaintance, that will be the price. If I am selling on Ebay or gumtree or something, then I will add 10-20% (depending on appeal of component)

In your case however, you are unlikely to find a 'reasonable" new price for say the i7 950 or the GTX 460. Instead, you will have to find out the cost of a modern performance equivalent, divide by two, but bear in mind, that your components will be more power hungry, run hotter etc, and make a deduction for that. Having said all that, I see 2nd hand computers going for ridiculous prices, or rather, prices that nobody with a bit of understanding about PC components would be prepared to pay.
