Value Performance RAM?

Hi there,

My machine is now a few years old, but I would like at least another year out of it before throwing it in the bin and going to AMD.

It is:
Intel P4 2.4c @ 3ghz
ASUS PC4800 Deluxe
2x Corsair TWINXMS 3700 256MB - (512MB)
Radeon 9800Pro
Raptor and Diamond Max9 ultra

Unfortunately I got myself the complete wrong RAM due to complete ignorance surrounding memory. (Still know very little to be honest)

What I have as I said is Corsair TWINXMS 3700 (512MB). This has been fine, but I am now starting to notice the lack of memory especially when using Visual Studio or Nuendo.

I don't think I can just go and grab another 512mb of what I have; so do I have to trash the Corsair 3700 DIMS and put 2x512 in to get to 1gb?

If this is the case I want to get the cheapest performance RAM I can as when I upgrade next to PCIe I want to go the AMD route and this is a little stop gap.

My chip has been running at 3ghz for most of the time; so I guess keeping it there would be nice, but if that is going to cost too much then I can sacrifice it for the RAM upgrade...

Any help on what to get, where to look would be great..

Thanks

Well Im as far from educated on this as possible, but I think it is running at 250 to get my proc from 2.4 to 3. Does this make sense?

Would this be the right stuff?
Geil Value on Overclockers

I was thinking of getting RAM that would be great when I upgrade, but there is not much point as I want to wait until Christmas or next year and new bits will be available... So just the best value RAM I can get really!

Ahh,

would the GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5 (GE1GB3200BHDC) (MY-005-GL) not be better??

That is also on 'This week only' for an extra £10 ?.. Shame there are no reviews on the OCUK stuff..

Ok, I think I will go for the GEIL.

I guessed It would not be worth to much even though I paid like £130 or something, wish I had got 3200.

Might just dump it in my server....
