Valve and its quick bucks.

imo shows what a rip off steam actually is. Buy TF2 for $30, or the pack for $44, whereas separate they retail for over $100 - the prices are stupidly hiked

steam might not be everyones cup of tea fair enough, but it has some fantastic deals .. i grabbed the painkiller pack for £5 , superb game great fun well worth it .. id also include the 'orange' box as great value for what im getting and yes i own hl2

for pure convenience its a great service, no more lost or damaged discs

So what? I don't want 3 games for £10 each. I want one of them. Thats it.

TF2 is showing as being $29.99 on its own. I'm happy to pay this, becuase TF2 is the only product I want. Why am I not able to do this?

I will never play Portal or HL2 Episode Two.

you do know tf2 isn't out yet only the beta since the retail isn't out till oct 10th there is no reason to sell it till this date and i guess valve will the same way all the other games have been released

the beta is only for people who buy the orange pack or a ati card

Valve has the best mod community there is. They also didn't charge for cs when they bought it, they didn't charge for dod either. I really don't see the problem here

Valve charging for these mods which they have arguably improved - in some cases into standalone games - is understandable.

What isn't understandable is the way they seem to penalise existing customers by giving them a choice between buying games they already have, or paying for the new releases for a total premium.

ahhh "only £20" when they all used to be "£0"

its not the price its the principal, i guess everybody has none.

there is a free one

its called Fortress Forever

TF2 came from valve, so will have a fee with it.

if you dont want to pay for a valve mod, play fortress forever.

Am I the only one on this entire planet disgusted with Valves increasing greed?

What happened to the days when modification games to the half life engines were free!?

Now it just seems that if a mod becomes popular Valve are all over it, and throwing money at the creators just so they can add the mod to their pay-per-key system. I find it very monopolising and against everything the original ideas were put into production for.

Counterstrike, Team Fortress, Day of Defeat, Garys Mod are to name of a few of the fun mods that were created in the name of fun and passion for the engine and how customisable it is. Now it just seems like Valve are snapping all the fun and love of the game and selling it back to us. Why can't they let these things just be?

I think its fair to say, if I dont like it, dont buy it, and trust me, I won't be, I just find it very hard to swallow the fact that they are doing this and people are lapping it up and dishing out cash for mods that used be created and made for fun and love for all of us to enjoy for free, as they were created.

(Self Edited Insullts...)

Amazing.

Mods are still free, I don't know why you are making stuff up, I guess some people just can't help but talk crap.

Second, you pay for games like everyone else does, and I assume you'e talking about TF2, and having to pay for it, because it's not a mod, more like a Total Conversion and if you think that games worth nothing, you're having a laugh!

The devs did an incredible job, however much I hate how they basically raped the rules of CTF, did a great job with the art direction and gameplay.

Don't tell me if you were a developer and/or making a mod and the chance to go from sitting at home working away for nothing to actually make a name in the games world, you'd not go for it? Most of us would!

I can't believe the gall some people have expecting things for free.
People have to work hard, long, sweaty hours just so you can sit there and enjoy yourself for free?

What next, not payfor Triple A titles?
HAH! IF anything TF2 sure beats some of the AAA's already!

HUMANS ARE FAILING ME!
This world really needs a rapture, of a different kind.

Yup you can, but the way people are whinging you'd think that Valve were forcing them at gun-point to buy the Orange Box.

I wonder if people would have kicked up such a fuss had they not released it at all and just sold all of them at retail prices.

Oh, and I think developers getting paid after spending thousands of hours creating great mods for free is fantastic, these guys deserve it.
