Valve clearances and a rounded bolt

Last week I attempted to do my valve clearances but was stopped by a stuck hex bolt on the cam cover. I Plus Gas'd it for a week and tried again with some sharp shocks but it won't move.

How much extra would you expect to pay (over the top of 4 hours for valve and carbs) to remove the bolt? The bolt is in a difficult position and I would personally have to drop the engine so I could attack it top down, the frame stops that currently.

Thanks

Have you already tried a cold chisel on the outer edge of the bolt? You might also try seeing if you can hammer a tight fitting Torx bit in.

Obviously you're going to need a new bolt, I'd get that ordered right now as it may not be a stock item.

its a pity you couldn't replace them with a bolt that has a nut on the end rather than an allen key

they always tend to round off

I did try a chisel on it but it still wouldn't budge and unfortunately I can't hammer in an oversized Torx as the frame's in the way, it really is the most awkward bolt to access.

Thanks for the advice about not expecting to pay more, I've already got the part ordered from Suzuki

Thanks,

£40 later ;o[/QUOTE]

You know looking at the state of that I reckon that was probably £40 well spent as that was proper stuck, personally i think that might well have got the better of me, there would've been tantrums. :D

I went to man who does it for a living, stuck glow plugs is his speciality but this took him about an hour. He tried every tool under the sun, cold chisel finished it off but it had bonded all over the bolt :(
