Hey there

Does anyone know how i would get the original CS:S maps into valve hammer? I read somewhere that it's not allowed by valve? Surely theres a way to do it seeing as there's so many custom maps based on the originals (de_dust3 for example).

Anyone know where i can find info about this?

Thanks :)

vmex is a program used to decompile maps but is not supposed to be used on official maps. It is a handy tool if you forget to save backups of your vmfs etc.

The simple answer is you can't open them directly and your not supposed to open them at all.

You can do it with a little work though. First you need a tool like GCFScape to extract them from the GCF files, then you need to use VMEX to decompile it. The result is a vmf file which can be opened and edited in Hammer.
